Practice / Digital Transformation

The accounting era
runs on data.
We make yours legible.

We built this practice around ERPNext. We are extending it into the next decade. Today the work is not installing software but engineering the data, automation and intelligence layer that lets a finance function read itself in real time, and lets an audit team test the entire population rather than a sample.

00 / Position

Why this is not another software pitch.

P/01

The spreadsheet is not the system.

Most finance functions in Ghana still run on a constellation of spreadsheets stitched together by one long-serving accountant. When that person leaves, the institutional memory leaves with them. ERPNext gives the function a single system of record. That is the foundation. Not the destination.

P/02

Software without discipline is shelfware.

We have walked into engagements where an ERP was bought, configured, and abandoned within eighteen months. The tool was never the problem. Process design, change management, and clean master data are. We lead with the operating model, then with the platform.

P/03

AI is a layer, not a leap.

An auditor cannot apply machine learning to records that are not structured, reconciled, and complete. Intelligence fails silently on dirty data. So we sequence the work: digitize the record, automate the repetition, then augment the judgement. AI arrives last, on top of a foundation it can trust.

01 / The Path

Digitize. Automate. Augment.

Three stages, in that order. Skipping ahead is how digital transformation budgets get wasted. Each stage is a prerequisite for the next; we do not sell the third to a client still struggling with the first.

  1. Stage 01

    Digitize

    System of record

Replace the spreadsheet sprawl with one structured, reconciled, auditable source of truth. ERPNext is our default; we implement it because it is open, modular, and free of licence lock-in.

    • ERPNext implementation & configuration
    • Chart of accounts, cost centres, master data design
    • Procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, record-to-report flows
    • Inventory, manufacturing, payroll & HR modules
    • Bank integration and reconciliation automation
    • Cloud hosting, backups, access controls

Outcome: A finance function whose numbers tie to a single ledger.

  2. Stage 02

    Automate

    Removal of repetition

With clean data flowing through a single ledger, the rules-based work becomes scriptable. Reconciliation, allocations, recurring journals, vendor onboarding, exception routing. The team stops copying numbers between systems and starts interpreting them.

    • Workflow & approval engine configuration
    • Scheduled journals, allocations, accruals
    • Automated bank, intercompany and supplier reconciliations
    • Continuous controls monitoring (rule-based)
    • Real-time finance dashboards & KPI scorecards
    • Reports that regenerate themselves, on time, every period

Outcome: The month-end that used to take ten days closes in three.

  3. Flagship
    Stage 03

    Augment

    The intelligence layer

This is where modern begins. Machine-learning models read documents, test full populations of transactions, and surface the unusual for a partner. The audit moves from sampling to coverage. The finance function moves from reporting the past to anticipating the next quarter.

    • AI-enhanced audit: full-population testing under ISA 500
    • Document understanding: invoices, contracts, waybills to structured data
    • Anomaly & outlier detection across the general ledger
    • Continuous risk assessment that updates between engagements
    • Predictive cash flow and working-capital forecasting
    • Natural-language querying of the finance database

Outcome: Every transaction tested. Every anomaly surfaced. The partner freed for judgement.

02 / Flagship

AI-Enhanced Audit.
Test everything.
Defend every opinion.

A traditional audit tests a sample, then projects the result to the population. Sampling exists because human auditors cannot read a million transactions. A model can. With AI-enhanced audit we move from inference to coverage, while keeping the partner squarely in the judgement seat.

Full-population testing
Every transaction in the ledger is scored against expectation models. Outliers surface for human review instead of being missed by sampling.
Document understanding
Invoices, contracts, waybills, bank statements are ingested and converted to structured data. The audit trail assembles itself; the team reviews the exceptions.
Continuous, not annual
Risk scoring updates through the year. By the time the engagement opens, we already know where to look.
03 / Self-Assessment

Where are you on the curve?

Most finance functions in Ghana sit between Stage 1 and Stage 2. A candid self-assessment is the first conversation we have with any client, because it decides which stage we start in.

L2 · Emerging

The function runs on spreadsheets with a partial ERP. Reconciliation is manual and month-end is painful. The right move is to finish Stage 01: a clean, single system of record.

04 / Capabilities

What we actually build.

Implementation

ERPNext design & rollout

Chart of accounts, modules, roles, approvals, hosting. Built to be audited from day one.

Data engineering

Clean-data programmes

Master-data cleansing, deduplication, reconciliation back to the ledger. AI cannot fix what the data does not contain.

Automation

Finance workflow engines

Scheduled journals, exception routing, automated reconciliations. The repetition leaves the desk.

Analytics

Audit analytics & CAATs

Computer-assisted audit techniques run across the full population, with exceptions routed to the engagement team.

Intelligence

Document understanding

Invoices, contracts and waybills ingested, classified and matched to transactions without manual keying.

Forecasting

Predictive finance

Cash flow, working capital and revenue forecasting that learns from the ledger rather than a static budget.

Reporting

Real-time dashboards

Board-grade KPI scorecards that refresh from the live ledger. No more waiting for the pack.

Governance

Controls & access

Segregation of duties, approval matrices, audit trails. The platform that lets an auditor sleep.

Change

Adoption & training

The unglamorous half of the work. We train the team, document the processes, and stay for go-live and beyond.

05 / How We Work

Technology moves fast. Trust does not.

We apply the same standards to this practice as to audit. The tools are new; the discipline is the one the firm was built on.

  1. i

    Partner-supervised

An AI output is working paper. A partner reviews it before it touches the audit file or the board pack.

  2. ii

    Explainable

Every model output is traceable to the records and rules that produced it. Black boxes do not survive review.

  3. iii

    Standards-bound

ISA, IFRS, ICAG and Nexia International quality frameworks apply identically to AI-assisted work.

  4. iv

    Data-sovereign

Client data stays under agreed controls. Hosting, residency and access are documented in every engagement.

“A model can read a hundred thousand transactions in an hour. It cannot be held to account for the opinion. That remains, as it should, a human job.”

The position we hold on AI in audit
06 / Where it lands

The verticals that move first.

Some sectors feel the cost of manual finance sooner than others. These are where the case for digitize-automate-augment is hardest to argue against.

Financial services

Regulators expect continuous controls

Bank of Ghana and IFRS 9 reporting pressure makes automated reconciliation and ECL modelling a survival issue, not a nice-to-have.

Extractives

Cost recovery is a data problem

Upstream and downstream operators carry thousands of cost lines across partners. AI document understanding turns petroleum cost statements into structured data.

Manufacturing & FMCG

Inventory and costing at scale

Multi-warehouse, multi-currency, bill-of-materials complexity that breaks spreadsheets within a single quarter.

Public sector & donors

Audit trails donors can trust

Donor-funded projects demand segregation of duties and traceable expenditure. The right ERP, configured properly, delivers both by default.

07 / Briefing

A 45-minute briefing. No slide deck.

Tell us where the finance function hurts. We will tell you, candidly, which of the three stages you are ready for and which you are not. If ERPNext is not the right answer, we will say so. If you are ready for AI-enhanced audit, we will scope a pilot.

  • Stage 1 review: where your record-keeping actually breaks
  • Automation audit: which tasks a human should not still be doing
  • AI-audit pilot: a scoped engagement on one population of transactions

Sessions are led by the Digital Transformation partner. In person in Accra, or remote for clients elsewhere. Briefings are typically scheduled within 5 working days. Pilot scoping takes 2–3 weeks.
